Judge Selection: Judges are chosen from a large pool of applicants each fall. Applicants must fill out an application that outlines their theatrical training/experience/expertise, potential perceived conflicts of interest, and fill out a mock ballot to demonstrate analytical and critical abilities. Applicants typically include theatre professionals, academics, highly informed audience members, and anyone else who may be interested. Applications are solicited in September and October. The Judging Committee reviews the applications (usually anywhere from 50 to 150) and select about 12 to 20 new judges in November, with orientation in early December. Judges serve three-year terms, with a third of the judges rotating off each year. Judges may reapply a year after rotating off. If you are interested in applying to be a judge, check the homepage in September for information and a downloadable application.
