Theatre History/Description: CITILITES Theatre began in 1994 with a hit revival of St. Louis' first local production of Evita (starring Deborah Sharn and JT Ricroft) at the New City School. Other early shows included the St. Louis premier of and the World Goes 'Round: The Songs of Kander & Ebb, A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum, Steambath and a successful production of Chicago (with Sharn and Tim Schall) before the movie and before Encores! presented its hit revival on Broadway.
In 2010, CITILITES was brought back to life with a new mission: to present popular works and recent Off-Broadway successes less than 15 years old (excluding musicals) and that have not been produced in the St. Louis professional theatre scene within the past 5 years. Last year saw Terrence McNally'sLove! Valour! Compassion!, John Patrick Shanley's Psychopathia Sexualis and a wildly successful production of Marry Me a Little, a little-known song-cycle featuring the songs of Stephen Sondheim. Marry Me a Little marked the move from Grand Center's Kranzberg Arts Center to CITILITES' new home, The Gaslight Theater in the Central West End.
Citilites also presents a special series in St. Charles, CitilitesWEST. Performances at Foundry Arts Centre, 100 Clark Street, St. Charles, MO 63301
