Theatre History/Description: Since 1973, Metro Theater Company has been creating accessible, sensory productions that respect young people’s intelligence, tell compelling stories, stimulate curiosity, and provoke thoughtful reflection. Metro takes young people seriously and is therefore committed to providing them theater of the highest artistic merit that addresses their needs. In its 38 years, the Company has reached a total audience of more than two million.
Core program activities include touring productions, mainstage shows, education programs, and new work development. Touring productions serve school audiences throughout the greater St. Louis metropolitan area and outlying communities in Missouri and southern Illinois, as well as nationally. Mainstage shows are mounted and presented for St. Louis audiences in a variety of locations including; Edison Theatre, COCA, The Missouri History Museum, and other venues in the surrounding area.
Since its founding, Metro Theater Company has contributed 30 new plays to the canon of dramatic literature for young people. The Company continues to incubate and develop new original theater pieces.
