Professional Theatre Council

The Professional Theatre Council was founded in 2004 in order to promote and celebrate excellence in professional St. Louis theater. The primary catalyst for fulfilling its mission is the annual presentation of the Kevin Kline Awards. The Kevin Kline Awards honors theatre artists and productions in 22 categories. In its six seasons of presenting awards, 148 trophies have been awarded, with 45 separate theaters nominated and 20 theaters receiving awards. The awards are named in honor of St. Louis’ own Tony and Academy Awards winner Kevin Kline.

Kevin Kline

A St. Louis native and Priory School graduate, Kevin Kline won Tony Awards for “On the Twentieth Century” and “The Pirates of Penzance” before leading roles in “Sophie’s Choice” (1982) and “The Big Chill” (1983) made him a Hollywood star. Adept at comedy and drama on stage and screen, Kline won an Academy Award for his madcap performance in “A Fish Called Wanda” and received accolades for his stage interpretations of “Richard III” and “Hamlet”. Refusing to abandon his passion for theater while working in films as diverse as “Dave” and “Cry Freedom,” Kevin Kline often has been called the “American Laurence Olivier.” He most recently received a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Falstaff in Shakespeare’s “Henry IV” at Lincoln Center.

Tito’s Handmade Vodka

Tito’s Handmade Vodka is produced in Austin at Texas’ first and oldest legal distillery. It’s made in small batches in an old fashioned pot still by Tito Beveridge (actual name), a 40-something Geologist, and distilled six times. In 2001 Tito’s Handmade Vodka unanimously won the Double Gold Medal for vodka at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, beating out 71 high-priced vodkas. In 2001 and 2007 it was awarded four-star ranking from Spirit Journal.

Tucci & Fresta Trattoria and Bar

Kim Tucci and Joe Fresta opened their new venture in 2011 at the address vacated by Portabella. As co-founders of the Pasta House Company, they are fixtures in the St. Louis restaurant scene. Tucci & Fresta features a menu of upscale Italian food, provided by the kings of Italian cuisine in St. Louis.

New Discussion Series

HotCity Theatre has created a new arts management discussion series that will include professionals from around the St. Louis region.

John Armstrong, managing director of HotCity Theatre states, “We have two arts administration interns from SIUE this semester, and while thinking about curriculum for providing practical experience, I thought that I would email a few people to help me teach the topics I have found fundamental and/or challenging to the management of a professional theatre company. After numerous positive responses, it made sense to think bigger and offer a venue for the public to discuss these subjects. With any luck, it will provide ideas on how to make starting or running an arts organization a little less painful.”

The discussion series will take place at various times throughout the semester, and located at:

Clayton High School Little Theatre
1 Mark Twain Circle
Clayton, MO 63105

Admission is FREE TO THE PUBLIC and following remarks by panelists, a 20-30 minute informal and casual discussion will be tailored to an audience who wishes to learn more about the general needs and challenges for running a non-profit. John Armstrong, HotCity’s Managing Director will moderate discussion.
