PROFESSIONAL THEATER COUNCIL SUSPENDS JUDGING WHILE EVALUATING ORGANIZATION’S FUTURE
Earlier this week, the Board of Directors for the Professional Theater Council of St. Louis voted to suspend judging of theater productions for the 2012 calendar year. The Board will seek advice from key constituents and community supporters while it evaluates the options of restructuring or dissolving the corporation.
“It’s been an extremely difficult decision for the Board to make,” says Charlie Robin, Board President for the Professional Theater Council. “So many years of passion and commitment have gone into all of the successes of the organization. The current business model is just not working to sustain the organization’s annual operations while also dealing with its outstanding tax liabilities.
The decision to suspend judging means that there will definitely not be an awards ceremony in the Spring of 2013. The Board will use the summer months to evaluate if the suspension will be temporary with a new structure in place for the new calendar year or if the suspension of operations will be permanent.
The Professional Theater Council of St. Louis is best known for its annual presentation of the Kevin Kline Awards. Its seven award ceremonies have honored hundreds of nominees and award recipients across twenty-two categories celebrating outstanding achievement in acting, directing and all production aspects of professional theater in St. Louis.
